Our schools and the stone age
to make somebody believe you when you say that school prepare students for future, you would have a look at these facts:
- cars in 2017 very modern, but 150 years ago it was a wagon hitched to horse.
- phones, mobiles are different with phones 150 years ago.
- but what will you say if I tell you that classrooms these days are similar to classrooms 150 years ago; setting in straight lines, raise your hand when you want to speak and etc...
I would die when I remember teachers standing in front of 45 students teach them in the same way. 45 students who have different gifts, different dreams and different interests.
Fish will believe that it is foolish if we judge it by asking it to climb the tree.

Hi Ahmad, you are the only guy in the classroom, I feel bad for you:p
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised because it's shown in the actions of the children now a days. Parents and teachers don't know how to raise good children. So we should be the teachers who will make a change in Education.
I spend rest of the week trying to forget this fact, so you should spoil me in order not to extinct :)
ReplyDeletewith the explosion of researches which clearly present the newest effective methods which positively effect students' achievement, teachers should find out what are the most effective methods which improve their students' skills, in addition they should encourage them for better academic achievement
Hi Ahmad!I don't feel bad for you, sir! I believe you're determined and courageous to stay in a female-dominated environment (I confess dealing with us is not easy!!) :)
ReplyDeleteRegarding your post, I really like the way you compared classrooms to other, more life-related topics. Unfortunately, this is the reality of our education systems. Change is possible, but it can't take place if we don't prepare ourselves for it.WE are the source of change; we can integrate more realistic techniques and topics in our curricula to make learning more meaningful. However, this needs effort and time and most importantly, politicians who believe in the importance of education. And as we are the ones who decide who our leaders are, we have to make our students aware of the importance of their role in shaping the future.:)
hahah, how brave you are to confess.
ReplyDeletewe can start changes from our classrooms. I think we won't be asked to make huge changes in all over the country. let's start with our students only.
thanks for your nice comment.
You're welcome!! :D
ReplyDeleteAhmad I very much liked how you related classrooms to real life objects. Not only educators we are, but leaders, mentors, parents and counselors... If we don't initiate the cycle of change, who would? So we should be tolerant enough because we are the ones that shape up the society and teach all other professions!
ReplyDeleteThank you Reem. I know we initiate the cycle of change, but if we can work in our own environment at least, that would be good. real change need a integrated program includes parents and that may takes 40 years.
ReplyDeletehi Ahmad:) well, i do agree that the classrooms still look the same, but i think it is not relevant to what we teach and how we teach nowadays. i agree that this rectangular shape is still the dominant shape of classroom spaces, keeping this view of teacher centered learning. i think something should be done about the class space itself to meet with students needs and this asks for a whole process change at all educational levels.
ReplyDeleteI like this post. It is really true. I wish we can improve our classroom for the best in a day. It is our role to be models, counselors and mentors to integrate the right teaching with high values in order to achieve high achievements and work hard to convergent the teaching into modern path.
ReplyDeleteVery nice comparison Ahmad! Unfortunately, this is the truth! Our classrooms should be developed or we will lose our students. I am recognizing that the number of students who are interested in learning is decreasing. That's because they are thinking that there are something better than education and education according to them is a boring thing! So as we are teachers we should start working in developing our classrooms, teaching methods and techniques..
